Menopause|Perimenopause| Culinary Medicine|Nutrition Workshops
These group meetings|workshops are designed to discuss various topics on Nutrition, Exercise, Functional Medicine, Culinary Medicine, Hormonal balance, Perimenopause and Menopause and its related and associated conditions. These are designed to discuss topics that relate to all women but especially to those women over 35. They are educational within the structure of an organized discussion group. They provide up-to-date and accurate information on menopause, perimenopause, osteopenia, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, sex after menopause, weight changes, adequate nutrition, vitamins & minerals, fertility, culinary medicine, irregular uterine bleeding, breast cancer, gynecologic and non gynecologic cancers, hormone replacement therapy, hormonal balance, bio identical hormones, sport medicine and herbology.
These workshops are not only educational; it is also a “process” group. Thus, the primary focus is on the participants and their desire to share their experiences, help one another understand their choices, and empower one another to be informed and to take care of themselves. The atmosphere should be one of encouragement, acceptance, and inclusion.
Members of a group who are comfortable in expressing their feelings and thoughts find a therapeutic benefit to group participation. The peer support is valued and motivates women to explore their own uniqueness and seek peer feedback. These women who participate in groups report more often feeling less self- critical, more appreciative of their strengths and better able to achieve their goals.
Women participating in these Perimenopause and Menopause workshops|seminars do not need to be actual patients of Texas Menopause, however if desired, appointments can be scheduled for a more personal and individualized assesment.
Target audience for these groups are all women especially those after 35 (perimenopause transtion) or post menopause, or those who have experienced premature menopause due to a surgical removal of the ovaries or chemotherapy related therapy. Pre-registration is encouraged. Agendas will be emailed to participants as these will serve to structure the workshops. Individual participation during the event is encourage although not mandatory.

Define basic menopause-related terminology
Discuss Differences between Synthetic and BioIdentical hormones
Learn how BioIdentical Hormones are produced and compounded
Discuss endocrinologic and physical changes associated with reproductive and physiologic aging (women >35)
Identify significant risk factors for diseases that can result from lowered ovarian hormone levels.
Discuss common symptoms of menopause: Hot flashes, mood changes, pain during sex, urinary incontinence, insomnia, migraines, decreased libido, skin changes, weight changes, fatigue, poor concentration, joint pain, osteoporosis etc.
Counsel about appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies to monitor hormonal therapies ( salivary, urinary, blood testing)
Discuss various topics related to menopause by experts in their respective field of medicine (fitness experts, dermatologist, family doctors, gastroenterologist, OBGYN, Menopause specialists etc )
Describe current research regarding the use of pharmacologic as well as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatments for menopause-related conditions. (Herbology, acupuncture, relaxation techniques )
Develop recommended lifestyle changes strategies for menopause-related symptoms and disease prevention.
Provide each attendee with educational material to make informed decisions regarding health promotion and illness prevention.
Address psychosocial issues and mental issues after menopause.
Recognize when referrals to specialized services are appropriate ( Dermatologist, Endocrinologist, Anti aging specialist, Gastroenterologist, etc )
Encourage acceptance and long-term adherence to an individualized healthcare plan.
Develop appropriate counseling strategies that lead to positive lifestyle changes for women around perimenopause, menopause and beyond.
